I woke up this morning at 4:45 (thanks Leah) determined to get my house cleaned. For once we had no plans, no play dates, no errands to run, nothing and my house really really needed/needs a cleaning. So...I was outside watering my plants and I noticed some ants coming into our house through an opening in the bricks. This annoyed me because I hate ants and we have been having such a hard time with them. My bug man, Pete, had just given me some ant bait that came in little plastic things so I stuck one of them out there. Before I set it down I saw the big black bold letters that warned to keep away from pets and kids because it was poisonous. It was only 7:30am at this time and Kinsley, Lexi, and Bailey (the dogs) don't usually crawl out of bed until at least 9:00am so I figured I'd just grab it up before we went outside. Well, the whole family was up and at em' much earlier than expected and as things got hectic I totally forgot about my little bait.
While I was changing Leah's diaper, I heard Kins let Bailey outside and didn't think much about it. About 5 min. later Kinsley wanted to go outside and play with the water table. I put Leah in her bouncer on the patio and grabbed the water hose to fill up the table. That's when I noticed the bait was gone! I looked over and not so sneaky Baily Jo was licking her lips like she just ate something. I threw the running hose on the ground and ran over to Bailey trying to pry her jaw open, but there was nothing there. I searched the entire yard for the bait hoping she had just carried it off yet knowing better. While I was scouring the yard Kinsley found the hose and was watering Leah like she was a plant. As you might imagine this did not make Leah or me happy. I scooped Leah up and took her inside to dry off. Then I got on the phone with the animal poison control because I was starting to freak out about Bailey and the bait. I kept thinking that she was either going to die before I could get her to the vet or it would cost me a fortune to save her. I know this is selfish, but I really want my new counter tops and a major vet bill would throw a big kink into my plans. Anyways, the poison people wouldn't talk to me until I gave them my credit card number. So, as I ventured into the kitchen to get my wallet I see Kinsley standing in the breakfast room with the water hose!!! By this point we were all soaking wet, my kitchen was being flooded, Leahs was screaming and I was worried that Bailey was going to croak any second.
I might add that I did not handle any of this with grace.
Long story short, Bailey's okay, Leah took a nap, I was able to soak up the water in the kitchen and we're still getting new countertops. The house, however, did not get cleaned.
The playroom after a very looooong day.
Maybe I'll have better luck tomorrow
